Seven-year-old Elaina Love has been presented with an award by the Gamekeepers Welfare Trust (GWT). The award celebrates the next generation of countryside custodians, recognising Elaina’s hard work, hands-on dedication, and passion at CherryValley Estate, Co. Antrim.
From helping rear birds to working on shoot days, Elaina has proven herself to be a huge asset. Her responsibilities span the entire lifecycle of the estate's game birds, from day-old chicks, their transition to poults, to feeding them to the whistle once released.
Elaina’s dedication is unwavering regardless of the season, or the weather. Throughout the winter, she did not miss a single Saturday shoot, beating and braving the unpredictable weather with an enthusiasm that is inspirational.
"At just seven years old, Elaina displays an authentic passion for gamekeeping," said Raymond Holt, GWT’s Operations Manager. "Her hard work, resilience in the field, and care for the birds and the land make her a great candidate for our award. We are proud of her well-deserved success."
Elaina’s efforts support the broader ecological and conservation goals of CherryValley Estate. As part of its sustainable management program, the estate balances walked-up and driven shoots with rigorous habitat protection. CherryValley’s wetlands provide a vital sanctuary for snipe and wild game birds, while its enhanced woodlands support healthy pheasant and partridge populations.
Elaina was presented with her award by Robert, Head Gamekeeper at CherryValley Estate on Saturday 17 October 2026.
