The Frank Jenkins Memorial Trophy has been awarded each year since 2011 and recognises students, young gamekeepers and conservationists who show outstanding practical and theoretical skills, and who have the ability to be a great ambassador for the profession.

This year the award was made to Will Crowther, who is studying Countryside Management Level 3 at Bishop Burton College three days per week and spends two days a week (and more) on the Bolton Castle Estate under the watchful eye of head gamekeeper, Ian Sleightholm.

Will has passion and commitment, giving all his free time to gamekeeping. He understands the balance between game and conservation and is always keen to discuss the benefits of shooting with the general public at game fairs and country shows.

A hard worker, Will is always looking for a new task; he also has a polite and confident manner, making him not just a great asset to the Bolton Castle team, but a great ambassador for the profession.

Mature beyond his years, Will has helped with all aspects of upland and lowland keepering, including heather burning, trapping, tree planting, building bird boxes, keeping diaries, and much more.

Going forward, it is clear that Will’s drive and enthusiasm for gamekeeping and upland conservation will bring him the career he wants and just as importantly, will bring benefits to the countryside as well.

The Frank Jenkins Memorial Trophy is sponsored by Seeland.
