The Debate on the petition to make the free running snare illegal for trapping wildlife in England
NGO members and followers will know that Scotland and Wales are facing restrictions or total bans on the use of snares in the near future.
In England, a petition to make the free running snare illegal for trapping wildlife has received over 102,000 signatures and will be debated in Parliament at 6pm tonight (9 January).
NGO Development officer, John Clarke and GWCT's Roger Draycott met with Nick Fletcher, MP for Doncaster, Chair of the Petitions' Committee and who will be leading the debate. This is just a debate and does not have Government time.
A strong case for the continued use of snares, including the benefits to conservation, was put forward by the NGO and GWCT and it was highlighted that an outright ban on all snares would be detrimental to farming, game management and the environment at large. Mr Fletcher was very receptive to the arguments.
