The APHA have announced that following the escalating number of cases of avian influenza in kept and wild birds, the AIPZ with mandatory housing measures to protect poultry and captive birds has now been extended to the whole of England to all keepers of over 50 birds and all keepers who sell or give away eggs or poultry products (even if they keep fewer than 50 birds).
It is now a legal requirement for keepers of over 50 birds and all keepers who sell or give away eggs or poultry products (even if they keep fewer than 50 birds) in England to house their birds and continue to follow stringent biosecurity measures.
It is worth noting that game birds that have been released are now wild birds and therefore do not need to be housed. Shooting is not restricted as a result, but you should check local restrictions if you fall into a 3km protection zone or 10km surveillance zone. You will also need to consult with your game dealer before shooting any game if you fall into these zones.
The NGO have a Q&A on our website which can be found by clicking here.
We strongly recommend that all shoots increase biosecurity around the shoot. Some advice on enhanced biosecurity can be found by clicking here.
