The NGO comments on the RSPB’s "Birdcrime 2015" report, which is published today (3 February).
A spokesman for the National Gamekeepers’ Organisation said: “Let’s be clear, raptor persecution is wrong, it is against the law and it must stop, which is why the NGO, and like-minded organisations, are working hard as active members of the Partnership for Action Against Wildlife Crime, the Raptor Persecution Priority Delivery Group and elsewhere, to ensure this numerically rare crime passes into history.
“We are sad to see that the RSPB media release issued to support the publication of its Birdcrime 2015 report hardly pays lip service to the good guys – the thousands of gamekeepers, many being RSPB members – who regard raptor persecution as something that needs to be wiped out as soon as possible for everyone's benefit, not just birds of prey.
“We are going to be successful in stamping out persecution, and the best way to achieve it is by working together, one organisation alongside another, in a grown-up atmosphere of mutual co-operation and trust, free of squabbles. The NGO is working hard to create this collaborative, consensus-based culture among all the organisations looking to root out raptor crime. Hence our regret today about the way the RSPB has publicised this report.”
