On 5th June the National Gamekeepers Organisation held the prestigious Golden Grouse Competition at Thimbleby Shooting Ground, in North Yorkshire. The sun shone, which made the event even more enjoyable than usual!
Monday 5 June saw the Annual Golden Grouse Clay Shoot hosted by our friends at Thimbleby Shooting Ground, Northallerton. Over 100 participants enjoyed the sunshine, an excellent day dusting clays and catching up with old friends, including Helen Benson from GWT who joined the fun.
Seven categories were tightly fought over, especially the Team Flush which ended in a draw.
The ethos of the Golden clay competitions is to get people together: the NGO doesn’t see them as a money making venture, they are run for our members to enjoy. That is why we work so hard to keep the price down to a minimum.
We have always been very lucky to have hugely generous sponsors, as without their generosity we would struggle to keep these events going. Our sponsors for the Golden Grouse were LA Dent, gamedealers, for supplying the trophies and cash prizes for the junior category; Plugzz, who donated the first prize of a pair of their ear defenders; Zoli; Edgar Brothers; Deerhunter, and Ford. Thimbleby Shooting Groung are also always very generous to us and kindly host the event; to be able to host a clay shoot surrounded by thousands of acres of stunning countryside within the North York Moors National Park is fantastic.
It was also lovely to have Helen Benson from the Gamekeepers' Welfare Trust at the shoot to be able to chat to members and those competing about any concerns, and a huge thank you to Archie from Askham Bryan College who volunteered his day to help keep score.
