Last week, the National Gamekeepers’ Organisation – alongside a number of our Aim to Sustain partners including the Moorland Association and the Game Farmers’ Association – agreed to support a legal challenge against Defra over its withdrawal of GL43.
The British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) had proposed instructing lawyers to seek permission from the High Court to bring about a Judicial Review of Defra’s decision. They requested the help of other shooting organisations to support their fight, and the NGO immediately agreed to support the case both with manpower, and financially. Currently, the financial figures behind the challenge are unclear, as we are still in the early stages.
However, we believe it is of the utmost importance that we work together to achieve the best possible outcome.
The National Gamekeepers’ Organisation has also been collecting data and testimonies from shoots and keepers who are going to be affected by individual licensing and have been sharing that with BASC and their legal team from day one. If you have not yet shared your case with the NGO and are affected, please get in touch with the office or with your Regional Development Officer.
