With the change of government, the NGO knows that now is the time to further our engagement with new MPs all over the country. The work starts now!

Labour knows that it needs the support of the countryside if it wants to serve more than a five-year term. Sir Keir Starmer himself has said that: “No party can claim to represent the country if we don’t represent the countryside.”

The NGO will hold him to account on that statement. We will continue to engage with government ministers and local politicians: and we wrote to to Steve Reed, the new Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, upon his appointment. We are already lobbying on our members’ behalves.

We all need to maintain confidence in what we do; to keep showing best practice, including expanding self-assurance, excellent animal welfare and making sure that what we shoot is used, whether by ourselves or into the further food chain. Never forget that we are the true conservationists of the countryside.

As NGO Chairman David Pooler says: “Rest assured, the NGO will continue to defend gamekeeping, gamekeeping jobs and shooting sports.”
