The recently appointed NGO Regional Chairman for Northumberland and County Durham has won the National Gamekeepers" Organisation 2013 Golden Grouse Trophy

Andrew Dent, the recently appointed NGO Regional Chairman for Northumberland and County Durham, has won the National Gamekeepers' Organisation 2013 Golden Grouse Trophy. The clayshoot, which took place at East Allenheads, Northumberland, was a resounding success with a huge turnout of gamekeepers and NGO supporters.

Mr Dent, who shot 81 to take the Golden Grouse Trophy, is headkeeper on the 12,000 acre Holwick Moor, part of the Strathmore Estate. Frank Lowrison was High Gun ,with a score of 87. The event was held by kind permission of Mr Jeremy Herrmann.

Andrew Dent, the 2013 winner of the NGO Golden Grouse Trophy, said: "I am very pleased to have won. The clay set-up was excellent and the camaraderie among the Guns spot on. The trophy will be a magnificent addition to the mantelpiece, too."

Andrew Dent added: "I'd like to thank everyone at East Allenheads for putting on such an enjoyable day, especially headkeeper Steve Colmer and all the team. I know it was much appreciated by everyone. For me, it is almost like the event has come full circle as the very first Golden Grouse Trophy shoot in 2003 took place at Holwick Moor, where I'm headkeeper. So I am looking forward to hosting the event next year."

A rigidly enforced dress code helps lend the Golden Grouse Trophy shoot a unique atmosphere. To be eligible to enter the trophy, keepers must wear top-to-toe tweeds and a tie. The card of any Gun not in full fig is forfeit.

Sue Wardle, Estate Secretary at East Allenheads, and co-organiser of the day, said: "Congratulations to Andrew Dent, the Golden Grouse winner, and to the winners of all the other classes. Thanks to everyone who helped make this hugely well-attended event a resounding success. I'd like to pay special thanks to my co-organiser Adam Calvert, who was tireless in his help and support. It was a hot day to wear tweed under the blazing sun, but I must say all the keepers looked really dapper. It was a pleasure to run the day for the NGO. I hope everyone had a good time."

The NGO would like also to thank the shoot sponsors: A-One Game Bird Feeds (the sponsor of the NGO's Moorland Branch), wildlife artist Jason Lowes and Kings Gamecover and Conservation Crops for sponsoring the magnificent Golden Grouse Trophy.
