A Guide to Good Game Handling has been launched by the Code of Good Shooting Practice.

A Guide to Good Game Handling has been launched by the Code of Good Shooting Practice (COGSP).

The guide gives step-by-step advice from handling game in the field, transport to the larder and on to the consumer. It stresses the importance of keeping shot game clean, rapidly cooling it and storing it correctly.

Chairman of the COGSP, Bill Tyrwhitt-Drake, said: “We have produced a document that will give guidance to shoots of all sizes on the correct handling of game to ensure that the end consumer receives the game in the best possible condition.”

Richard Townsend, the National Game Dealers’ representative for the Code, said: “Working together we have produced a very useful guide to handling game. The guide gives an overview of best practices when dealing with shot game birds.”

The guide is available on line on the COGSP’s main website and also from supporting organisations.

The Code of Good Shooting Practice is overseen by a steering committee made up of representatives of the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC), the Countryside Alliance, the Country Land &, Business Association, the Game Farmers’ Association, the Game &, Wildlife Conservation Trust, the Moorland Association, the National Game Dealers’ Association, the National Gamekeepers’ Organisation, the Scottish Gamekeepers’ Association and Scottish Land &, Estates. BASC provides the secretariat for the Code.
